Second Royal Highland Festival

The 2nd Royal Highland Festival in Laya will be held on 23rd and 24th October 2017. This will be proceeded by a one day Laya Run on 22nd October 2017 and followed by the local annual offering festival known as Auley from 25 to 27 October 2017

On behalf of the Laya Gewog and Gasa Dzongkhag, Gasa Dzongda is happy to extends his heartiest welcome and invitation to Tour Operators to all above events as festival goers; stall owners to promote your services and products; to create public awareness on your mandates/services; to assist us on voluntary basis without any cost implications to the Dzongkhag; and as sponsors/supporter of the events (Royal Highland Festival and the Laya Run).

The Laya Run will flag off from Ponjothang (motor road end) to Laya which is about 25 kms and takes about 8 hours at normal walking speed. The expatriates and tourists will be charged US $ 100 per person. This fee will be used for covering the pack lunch, refreshment, prize, certificates, porters for the runners. Like last year, Dzongkhag will facilitate special travel permits for expatriates working/studying and living in Bhutan for their participation in these events. However, Dzongkhag will be providing packed lunch and refreshments on the Run Day free of cost. Please be informed that all expenditures have to borne by the individual and party concerned including food and accommodation at Laya. This also applies to the runners including the Bhutanese runners. However, Dzongkhag will facilitate the booking/reservation of farm stays/accommodation and other logistics upon request.

Dzongkhag would appreciate to receive the confirmation for festival and registration for Run by the end of August 2017 with details on travel dates and requirement for accommodation both in Gasa and Laya, pack and riding ponies to ensure efficient logistics to all. In particular, Dzongkhag would like to draw your kind attention to the requirements for horses (pack and riding) as Dzongkhag has faced huge difficulties last year due to last minute demand for horses.

Like last year, the participating individuals and parties are expected to bear all their expenses.
