The Haa Spring Festival

Join us for an immersive experience in the scenic valley of Haa, one of the lesser known valleys until it opened to tourism in 2002.
The Haa Spring Festival from 7th-9th April is a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in a whirlwind of colors, culinary delight and an array of programs showcasing the local culture and tradition. Previously known as the Haa summer festival, it is organized to celebrate the rich natural and cultural heritage of Haa.
The festival showcases the rare White Poppy, (Meconopsis superba), a flower endemic to Haa.
Nub-lang, the indigenous, rare and unique breed of cattle in the country also gets a stage at the festival. In the past, Nublangs were a symbol of wealth and today it is still prized for their strength and dairy production.
According to legends, the Nub-lang first emerged from Nub Tshona Pata, a lake on a terrain close to the Bhutan-China border. The lake has several fascinating myths and tales where several treasure revelers (Tertoen) have discovered many treasures.
Nyagoe (strong men) competition, horse riding, yak display, shamanic performances, photography competition and mountain bike race are also part of the festival.
Haa valley is also known for some of the best home-stays for tourists to experience the local culture, lifestyle and cuisine.
