On August 4, 2017, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN) and the Association of Bhutanese Tour Operators (ABTO) at the office of Royal Society for Protection of Nature.
Considering the interrelation between the tourism industry and the environment conservation, RSPN and ABTO will collaborate to promote a good environmental practice within the tourism industry. The two signing parties intends to develop a partnership which will help foster collaboration in terms of bringing in more environment conservation members from the tourism industry, diversifying eco-tourism activities, exchange of expertise and also advocate on the importance of environment conservation.
While the association between the two signing parties already existed, this memorandum shall further build on it. It is a major step forward that will help further promote the interaction and achieve the common goals of promoting eco-tourism in Bhutan.
Mr. Dechen Dorji, the Chairperson of RSPN and Mr. Sonam Dorji, the Executive Director of ABTO shared the same excitement and optimism for this partnership. Henceforth, both organizations will work together on the promotion of nature conservation through development of the outreach programs, sharing of networks, publications, workshops and conferences.
