Held annually in dzongs and monasteries across Bhutan, the festival of mask dance or Tshechu is one of the most colorful, spiritually significant and culturally vibrant festival in Bhutan. Monks and laymen perform a myriad of mask dances honoring some of the great buddhist masters of the past such as Guru Padmasambhava who introduced tantric buddhism in Bhutan in the eighth century.
